Elixir Features The Wild Geese Soldiers & Heroes Irish Whiskey in Celebratory Cocktail

This year marks the 75th anniversary of one of San Francisco’s most famous landmarks – the Golden Gate Bridge. To celebrate, Elixir have developed a ‘Golden Gate Cocktail’ menu, which includes The Wild Geese Soldiers & Heroes Irish Whiskey.

Elixir is a bar found in San Francisco’s Mission district and has been named as one of the world’s top cocktail bars. It is operated by H. Joseph Ehrmann who used our Rare Irish Whiskey for the menu:

“I tasted the full line up at Whiskies of the World and found that Rare bottling to be exceptionally rich and complex for an Irish whiskey. It made an excellent sipper but I immediately started to think of ways to enhance it in a cocktail”

“Generally, with a spirit as dominant and flavourful as that, I want it to shine, so simply adding a few touches is enough and the Old Fashioned formula is perfect for that. When a barrel aged spirit shows me deep dark chocolate notes, I like chocolate bitters to highlight that, and using brown sugar further enhances the richness. It’s a simple cocktail really, which is part of it’s beauty”

H. Joseph Ehrmann took these thoughts and created ‘The Mission Irish’.

“Elixir is the second oldest saloon location in San Francisco and had a long run of Irish proprietors in the early days, as well as a rich Irish community around it”

“The Mission District used to be teeming with Irish and a good number of them actually built the Golden Gate Bridge. So this drink is a nod to that heritage at Elixir and in San Francisco”

We’re really honoured to be a part of Elixir’s celebrations and are looking forward to patrons trying ‘The Mission Irish’ (which is superb, if we do say so ourselves).

But you can also try our Collection of Irish whiskeys on their own: the Classic Blend, Rare Irish, Limited Edition and the Single Malt, which has been voted ‘Best Irish Whiskey’ twice in little more than three months.
